Nisennenmondai - 2008 - Destination Tokyo

I have only known about this band for a few days but I am really impressed with them already. All-girl instrumental noise rock(?) trio that make some really long, hypnotic, driving rhythms, not totally sure how to describe it, it kind of feels like the music you would play if you needed to get really pumped for something.

Skullflower - 1990 - Xaman

how has it taken me this long to post a Skullflower album

Skullflower is this really fucking awesome psych rock/noise band (still active, btw) and this is one of their earlier releases. Really fucking heavy, crushing, blissful noisy jams. I will probably be posting more of their stuff soon, they've got quite a discog.

AFAIK this album doesn't really exist physically any more, label it was released on went under in 1996 and there were some weird problems with the CD pressing that made them degrade over time, or something? Not totally sure but good luck if you plan on tracking this down.

There's this little note behind the CD in this album's case that explains exactly why you should listen to this - "No synthesizers, samplers, sequencers, drum machines, computers, musical instruments." Really wild drone/noise stuff.

Heavenly shoegaze. Totally unlike all of the other acts I've heard, I actually wouldn't hesitate to call this ambient. Listen to it in the dark with your eyes closed.

Cool upbeat shoegazey musics that are impossible to not hum along to. This is their only release so far but I really hope they put out some new material!

Saltillo - 2006 - Ganglion

Apparently this album is "trip-hop," not like that's clearly defined. Usually laid-back with a few intense songs, it's got lots of neat vocal samples (Shakespeare! I think) and breaks and strings and stuff. Very recommended.
I haven't been able to find a place to order this from the label, apologies.

Atmospheric ambient/downtempo IDM (sort of) with some strings on a few tracks. Surprisingly engaging for the genre. This post is pretty underwhelming but whatever, get it.

Alec Empire, Jacob Kirkegaard, members of Pyramids, Dälek, Zs, and a shit-ton of other guys decided to team up and make some convoluted hybrid of digital hardcore, shoegaze, and some kind of really upbeat post-rock. Intense.

Absolutely gorgeous ambient with some folky guitar thrown in for good measure, a few songs have some pretty female vocals. Very recommended.
